Q. How has your career at Turner and Townsend developed?

A. I joined Turner & Townsend in 1999 as a Senior Cost Manager – my first project was the Wellcome Trust headquarters on Euston Road in London. I was promoted in 2006 to head the firm's rail business, and we won the Crossrail programme partner as part of Transcend.

Later, leading our UK infrastructure business, we became the sole provider of cost and commercial management and project controls services for capital investment at Heathrow. In 2018, I became Managing Director of the UK Business and part of the Executive Board, now Executive Committee.

Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

A. I am proud to be associated with Crossrail – one of the most ambitious and extensive infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Europe. As with all major programmes, Crossrail was complex to initiate and to bring into use, aiming to bring 1.5 million passengers within 45 minutes of central London. Crossrail is a fantastic accomplishment for London in the 21st century and for our industry – a truly world class railway.

Q. How do you contribute to Turner & Townsend making a difference?

A. I am passionate about bringing talent to our industry and our business. Professionally, through the delivery of our projects we give people the opportunity to grow and thrive. This makes a huge difference in our business, for our clients, in our communities and to peoples’ lives.

Q. Detail any specialist skills or experience for which you are known

A. I have a varied skill set with a deep commercial expertise pertaining to the whole asset lifecycle, developing business cases and initiating major programmes for driving business growth and motivating diverse large-scale teams.

Q. Describe your typical day.

A. There is no such thing. Every day is different, that’s what keeps it fun!

Q. What do you most enjoy most about working at Turner & Townsend?

A. The variety, the impact we are having, the business we have built, filled with amazing people, working on the most iconic projects and programmes with our clients.

Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?

A. We live in a changing world and there are many trends, the most significant is how we decarbonise the built environment and how we harness technological improvement. Developing our advisory offering on decarbonisation or developing a digital controls offering are good examples of our response to those stimuli.

Q. How do you see the business developing over the next five years?

A. I think our ambition as a business remains unchanged. We want to continue to grow and diversify our offer and our reach. Through doing this we will have significant impact for our clients in our communities, transforming performance for a green, inclusive and productive world.

This will also enable us to offer bright futures for our talent. We hope to continue to be a magnet for talent in our industry, to work on admired projects, to contribute to the communities where we operate, and to advise our clients in setting up programmes for success – including those in an increasingly digital environment.
