Director, Head of Programme Advisory, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
I thrive when working on challenging, innovative projects with complex communication flows and collaborating closely with remote teams spanning across continents.
With over 15 years of experience in management consulting, I have a background in engineering and business management, leading strategic capital investment portfolios for global companies in the infrastructure and energy and natural resources segments across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and the Middle East.
Q. What attracted you to join Turner & Townsend?
A. I wanted to join a company with great ambitions and that was committed to making a difference in the construction industry. Turner & Townsend’s global client portfolio and vision of transforming the performance of major projects and programmes was what attracted me to join our business.
Q. How has your career at Turner and Townsend developed?
A. My career has developed both professionally and personally, as I have had the opportunity to work in different teams and relocate to different countries. I joined our London business in 2017 as an Associate Director within the infrastructure sector and received an opportunity in 2018 to become a part of a newly formed business unit called programme advisory.
This team focused on servicing four distinct market areas (industry, enterprise, setup, and performance) and by 2020, I was leading our programme advisory controls and performance service offering in the UK. In 2023 I relocated to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to launch our advisory proposition here and create a specialist team that can deliver transformation at an organisational and programme level in the Saudi market.
Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?
A. Being afforded the opportunity to set up and launch our programme advisory business in the Middle East has been a career highlight for me. This is because enabled me to transfer my skills and experience to a new market for our business, develop a talented team and grow our network of clients. I enjoy building a culture in my team that puts our ‘duty of care’ principle for programme advisory into action, where people feel empowered and with a sense of belonging.
Q. Detail any specialist skills or experiences for which you are known
A. I specialise in developing strategy and transforming the performance of organisations delivering major projects and programmes. This includes portfolio management, project management office (PMO) setups and employing digital transformation.
Q. Describe your typical day.
A. Every day in a consultancy business brings about a diverse range of activities for me to engage in. I can find myself briefing the client in a project meeting, conducting interviews to find new talent to join our team, developing and reviewing bid responses for exciting new commissions, discussing career development within our team as a mentor, or managing the operations of our business unit.
Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?
A. I believe that one of the most important trends I’m seeing is the shift towards a digitised construction industry. We recognise the urgent need for innovation in the construction industry and are determined as a business to be at the forefront of this digital revolution.
Such a transformation requires a holistic approach guided by digital strategy policies set by governments. These must be implemented by both public and private companies, who each have a part to play either as clients or in the industry’s supply chain.
