As a Director in our Australia and New Zealand energy and natural resources segment, my role is leading the advisory team for sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). We specialise in offering pragmatic sustainability and decarbonisation advice to our infrastructure and energy and natural resources clients. This is to help them achieve commercially practical outcomes and mature their sustainability position at both a corporate and operational level.

I have over 17 years of experience working on major infrastructure projects and programmes across the clean energy, resources, utility and telecommunications sectors, underpinned by a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a post-graduate qualification in sustainable energy.

Q. How has your career at Turner & Townsend developed?

A. I joined Turner & Townsend as part of the JukesTodd acquisition in September 2022, where I lead ESG advisory. I was promoted to Director in 2023 and have since been working on maturing our broader sustainability, ESG and decarbonisation service offering, supporting both our Australian and international clients.

Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

A. I take great pride in working with clients as part of an ongoing integrated delivery team. Some notable highlights include overseeing the maturation of a sustainability programme and expansion project for a tungsten mine and playing a key role in the integration of a project-centric sustainability embedment framework for a major mining company. This framework was then deployed across its gold mining assets to ensure operational embedment of sustainability and decarbonisation objectives.

Q. How do you contribute to Turner & Townsend making a difference?

A. Globally, sustainability and decarbonisation are becoming increasingly important factors for the future of the planet. I feel that applying my practical mindset, commercial acumen and operational experience will help achieve tangible outcomes and make the difference to client projects, and this gives me a strong sense of purpose

Q. Describe your typical day.

A. My days can vary significantly as sustainability is quite a broad remit. The nature of advisory work is that there are often multiple client projects running concurrently, so my day is filled with tasks that keep me engaged while supporting my team.

These include helping deliver client workshops (with materiality and risk being the most common types), writing feasibility study content for sustainability and climate change chapters, visiting remote mine sites for operational application, and attending client board meetings to advise on sustainability trends and emerging legislation changes.

Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?

A. The cascading effect of global net-zero targets and decarbonisation objectives. Aspirations are now being converted into legislative and regulative requirements, and this in turn impacts organisations corporately but also operationally.

Clients need support to understand how these emerging trends are going to impact them, and what they need to do to adapt and deliver in a changing landscape. We are keeping pace with these trends and actively assisting clients in implementing the changes they need to realise their desired sustainability outcomes.
