Bettina Würfel

It’s an exciting time in Germany and Austria as we’re combining with CBRE Project Management, operating under the Turner & Townsend brand, working together to deliver a wider range of services for our clients and provide even greater development opportunities for our people.

I started my career at Turner & Townsend in 2003 as an architect in the Munich planning department. From there, I transitioned into project management, leading various projects before being appointed as Head of Real Estate for Munich in 2018. In 2024, I became the Managing Director for Germany and Austria.

Building on my architectural background, I’ve successfully worked on projects in the corporate occupier, commercial development, high-tech and manufacturing and retail sectors across design development and construction management phases.

In 2015, I was appointed to the Chairman’s Group (an internal research and development team), where my team of colleagues contributed to the development of the Hive, our company’s cloud-based digital data platform.

Q. What attracted you to join Turner & Townsend?

A. Turner & Townsend’s international scope and industry-leading projects stood out for me. I was particularly excited about joining a team that was working on large projects across different sectors with well-known clients. I felt that these opportunities would fuel my curiosity and deepen my understanding of the construction industry.

Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?

A. During my time at Turner & Townsend I’ve worked on several significant projects. A standout project is the Google Arnulfpost Office campus in Munich, where we transformed an iconic landmark building into an office campus.

As Director in Charge, I managed this complex redevelopment while aligning with the client’s sustainability goals. The project’s central location, tight schedule, heritage restrictions, local requirements and the building’s historic characteristics created unique challenges that tested and strengthened my capabilities.

Q. How do you contribute to Turner & Townsend making a difference?

A. Championing inclusion is important to me. I place a particular focus on advancing women’s careers and supporting the balance of professional growth with family responsibilities.

At Turner & Townsend, we’re committed to creating equitable opportunities for all by fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

Q. What do you most enjoy most about working at Turner & Townsend?

A. I value our company’s commitment to international collaboration and inclusion. Whether working on multinational commissions or being part of global initiatives such as our Chairman’s Group, I’ve enjoyed networking and engaging with colleagues and senior management across the world.

Mentorship has been integral to my career journey – both as a mentee and a mentor. This cycle of support is deeply rewarding.

Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?

A. As a key partner for major programmes and projects spanning real estate, infrastructure and energy and natural resources, we are at the forefront of trends shaping our future built environment, including supporting the clean energy transition.

The data centre sector continues to rapidly expand as artificial intelligence and machine learning drives demand for increased capacity. Similarly, life sciences facilities must adapt to accommodate technological advances and the digitisation of operations.

Our global clients are increasingly seeking extensive on-the-ground domestic market knowledge and expertise to implement such changes.  Backed by proven performance delivery, we bring the data, tools and robust approaches required to deliver success.

Q. Could you tell us if you commit part of your personal time to social projects and how?

A. I contribute to social responsibility at work through our Making the Difference Fund committee, and outside of work, sponsor a ‘Save the Children’ project in a Rwandan refugee city. These initiatives support children’s education and well-being, while empowering mothers to actively participate in society opening up employment opportunities for them to join the workforce.

I’m committed to making a positive impact on the lives of this community.
