Associate Director, Asia Regional Sector Lead for Life Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing, Singapore
I appreciate that my chemical engineering background closely connects to our work in life sciences, which is a sector that has led me to the forefront of innovation.
As a chemical engineering student, I enjoy solving problems and embracing the technical aspects of my work. I joined as Graduate Project Manager in infrastructure and transitioned to real estate, where I found my passion for life sciences.
In my time with our business, I have worked for some of the world’s largest clients and have had opportunities to lead as regional key client account in the UK, became chair of our Chairman’s Group (an internal research and development team), and currently I am a regional sector lead based in Singapore.
Q. What attracted you to join Turner & Townsend?
A. Variety is very important to me, so Turner & Townsend offered that in terms of sectors, locations and roles I could serve in. I’ve been very fortunate to have experience with both public and private clients, as well as served in multiple roles across the UK, Europe and Asia.
Q. How has your career at Turner & Townsend developed?
A. I’m grateful that I've had the chance to grow my career at a much faster rate than I ever expected when first joining as a graduate. I’ve been presented with many opportunities to specialise and advance in my technical role and I’m also empowered in my current leadership role from focusing on winning work, to managing client relationships and resourcing teams.
Moving to Singapore in 2023 to take on the regional sector lead role for life sciences in Asia was a major change for me on a personal and professional level, and has given me new markets, clients and people to support and build strong relationships with.
Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?
A. Being chosen to join our Chairman’s Group in 2022 was a proud moment in my professional development and a significant leadership opportunity for me. It’s also an important ongoing research and development project, where our CEO Vincent Clancy challenges us to provide bold, insightful and practical solutions to real issues within our business and industry. It was a highly rewarding year that propelled my growth, and fortunately I was able to continue for another year as the group’s Chair for 2023/2024.
Q. How do you contribute to Turner & Townsend making a difference?
A. I actively mentor people across our business, both in Asia and the UK. I know from my own experience as a graduate how incredibly valuable it is to support people who are just beginning their careers and witnessing their growth in confidence is truly rewarding for me.
I have also played a part in the committee behind our Making the Difference Fund, which we launched to scale up our support to causes which cut across borders and generate new long term, collaborative opportunities. I found the experience to be so fulfilling and inspiring due to its global scope. Our first partnership with Barefoot College International is a great example of the Fund’s global impact, where we are working the organisation to empower women in rural areas through training them as solar engineers, entrepreneurs and educators.
Q. What is the emerging trend in your industry specialism and how are you responding to this?
A. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming clients’ capital investments as they adapt their portfolios to incorporate this emerging technology. Our controls and performance capabilities are at the forefront of navigating and controlling the unknowns presented by the ‘Pharma 4.0’ transition by pharmaceutical companies into an era of a complete digitisation, which is gaining more and more momentum.
