Assistant Consultant, Singapore
I'm grateful for the mentorship and learning opportunities I’ve received during our graduate development programme, which have helped me to become a built environment professional.
I am a graduate from the National University of Singapore, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Project and Facilities Management, with a minor in Infrastructure Management and Finance. I completed my Singapore National Service as a medic and participated in internships with business consulting and engineering firms during my studies before joining our Singapore business’s graduate development programme.
Q. What attracted you to join Turner & Townsend?
A. I was attracted by the opportunity to progress my career while gaining a deeper understanding of the built environment. I was also inspired by one of the directors in our Singapore office who began her career as a graduate in our business.
Q. Which project are you most proud of being involved in at Turner & Townsend?
A. I am proud of my involvement in The Greenhouse at Dulwich College Singapore because it is a pioneering project for green building architecture in Singapore.
With it being the first net-zero international school in the country, the building’s integrated solar panels generate as much electricity as the building consumes, which is a remarkable achievement for sustainability. The project also incorporates numerous environmentally friendly features, including rainwater harvesting and building automation systems
Q. How do you contribute to Turner & Townsend making a difference?
A. Alongside my commission work, I’m also a part of our corporate responsibility team in Singapore and the local chapter of our business’s ‘Your Professional Future’ network.
Through these opportunities, I have been able to contribute to planning projects that have a positive impact on both charitable causes and our own wellbeing, as well as share my experiences with other young professionals in our business as we help each other grow in our careers.
Q. Describe your typical day.
A. I often have been between four to seven projects ongoing, so each day I am involved lots of meetings, note-taking, report preparation, and other project management tasks. But one activity that I like to keep consistent is starting each day with a good cup of coffee and greeting my colleagues.
Q. What do you most enjoy most about working at Turner & Townsend?
A. I enjoy the inclusive atmosphere. No matter the department or level of seniority, everyone is caring and helpful and looking out for each other. I also enjoy the vast number of opportunities and challenges that have enabled me to grow as a graduate to be a more capable and confident professional with regard to project governance and delivering high quality work.
Q. How do you see your career progressing at Turner & Townsend?
A. As a graduate, I am open to opportunities to specialise my sector knowledge and learn as much as I can from my colleagues and the projects we transform together. Given the variety of clients we support in both our Singapore business and across our offices globally, I am confident that I will attain a wide variety of experiences as I progress my career.
