Austria’s construction industry predominantly serves the public sector, which generates a pipeline of projects in areas including infrastructure, health and education. 

For these major projects, public sector clients are looking to funding routes such as public-private partnerships (PPP) to help achieve their ambitions. Beyond the public sector, private sector investment is increasing, both in Austria and the central and eastern European region. A growing population is also generating demand for residential development. With the Austrian government aiming for carbon neutrality by 2040, there is an increasing focus on sustainable construction and renovation across all sectors. The country’s existing hydropower resources are being supplemented by other renewable energy technologies, as it looks to transition away from gas.
