Appointed to lead project management for the construction of TenneT’s SuedOstLink in Germany

SuedOstLink will help transport electricity generated from renewable energy sources in the country’s northern and eastern regions to its south.

We have been appointed by TenneT to lead project management for the construction of SuedOstLink, the second largest link infrastructure project in Germany.

SuedOstLink will expand the country’s electricity network through a high-voltage direct current transmission line (HVDC) with a transmission capacity of 2*2 gigawatts. Several converter stations along the planned direct current (DC) underground cable line will improve the capacity to transport energy across southern Germany, supporting the country’s drive towards a low-carbon energy transformation.

Our team of professionals will lead various aspects of the project management function during the SuedOstLink’s construction phase in Bavaria. They will be responsible for performance management and project control, document management, scheduling and control, risk management, quality management and claim prevention.

The construction of the SuedOstLink project presents significant technical challenges for the project team. The length of the southern section comprises approximately 280km and the laying of a direct current earth cable totalling DC 525 kV will require several drilling methods to achieve, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and micro tunnelling.

We will be working closely with TenneT to plan, coordinate and control activity undertaken across the project’s supply chain, including planners, contractors and ancillary trades.

Tom Krumpholz, Director, said:

The ambition of TenneT’s SuedOstLink matches the challenge of delivering on the low-carbon energy transformation for Bavaria and wider Germany.

"Our team takes a rigorous, outcomes-based approach to major project delivery and we will be working side by side with TenneT and the wider supply chain to ensure SuedOstLink provides safe, environmentally friendly and affordable electricity to the region."
