Appointed to Smith+Nephew R&D and manufacturing facility
We have been appointed to provide cost management, project management and employer’s agent services to Smith+Nephew’s on its new world-class R&D and manufacturing facility for its Advanced Wound Management franchise on the outskirts of Hull, UK.
The new facility will focus on the development of high-technology products, supporting fast and efficient launches of new products, and manufacturing complex materials used across Smith+Nephew's portfolio. Plus, a flexible office environment for existing and new employees.
Subject to planning approval, works are anticipated to begin early 2023. The new facility will be located at Melton West business park (HU14 3RS) close by to Smith+Nephew’s current Hull site, where they have been located for more than 100 years.
Steven Dalton, Associate Director, said:
“The life sciences sector is going from strength to strength in Leeds, Hull and Humberside; and this brand new R&D and manufacturing facility is a great example."
The project is a key facility for harnessing and retaining local talent and a skilled workforce, but it will also play a vital role in ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of life sciences and innovative research for years to come.
"Our team in the north east has a growing capability in the life sciences sector and we are looking forward to working with Smith+Nephew to deliver this world-class facility.”
The appointment adds to our other recent wins in the life sciences sector across the UK, including our appointment to provide complete portfolio management of GlaxoSmithKline’s key manufacturing facilities in Montrose, Scotland.
Paul Butler, Program Director, Smith+Nephew, said:
The new Melton facility will be a flagship Manufacturing and R&D centre of excellence for Smith+Nephew. We look forward to working with Turner & Townsend and benefitting from their experience and knowledge in life sciences.
