Appointed to support delivery of world-class Perth Surf Park
We have been appointed by Aventuur to provide cost management services for the delivery of a new, world-class surf park in Perth, Australia.
The project is planned to be the largest surf park in the Southern Hemisphere, offering a variety of integrated sporting, tourism, recreation and entertainment uses.
Aventuur was selected by the Western Australia Government to deliver the surf park, which is to be located on a 5.7 hectare site in Jandakot in Perth’s south, just a short drive from the CBD.
It will feature a 2.2ha next-generation Wavegarden ‘Cove’ surfing lagoon, boutique surf hotel, retail store, a health, fitness and wellness centre, casual working spaces, functions and events spaces, a high-performance surf academy, a hire store offering board, wetsuit and equipment rentals, a beach club, and quality bars and restaurants.
The increasing popularity of surf parks in Australia follows an increase in the number of surf parks in Europe, the United States and Asia, where there is a growing appetite for surfers of all abilities to learn, train and enjoy the sport in a safe environment with consistent and optimal wave generation.
The complexity and scale of this project will call upon the expertise of two of our Australian offices, with the Perth and Melbourne teams collaborating to bring together their knowledge and experience from previous surf park projects across Australia.
The project is due to commence construction in early 2023, and to open to the public for Summer 2024/2025. It is expected to create around 260 jobs during construction, and around 65 full time equivalent employees when operational.
Simon Monaghan, Director of Cost Management, said:
The Perth Surf Park will offer unparalleled opportunities for high quality surfing on demand as well as unique leisure and recreation for surfers and non-surfers alike. Our experienced teams will use our knowledge of comparable projects to ensure robust cost benchmarking from the earliest stages – identifying areas for improvement at every step of the process and achieving value for money and affordability on this exciting new project for Perth and for Western Australia.
