Appointment to support major UK port operator, Peel Ports
Peel Ports Group, one of the UK’s major port operators, has appointed us to provide project and cost management across its portfolio of locations in the UK and Ireland.
As a key supplier to Lot 2 of their Engineering Consultancy, Project Management and Quantity Surveying Services framework, we will provide project management, cost management and other associated delivery services to help meet Peel Ports’ capital investment programme objective across an eight-year term.
Peel Ports Group owns and operates six of the UK’s most important ports (Port of Liverpool, Heysham Port, Manchester Ship Canal, Medway (Sheerness / Chatham), Clydeport (Greenock, Hunterston, Ardrossan, Govan, Inchgreen) and Great Yarmouth), together with a container terminal in Dublin.
Together, the six ports manage over 70 million tonnes of cargo every year, which is around 13 percent of the total UK major ports traffic. Over 35 shipping line services (from 26 shipping lines) call through this network of ports every week.
The new appointment builds on our existing work, and 10-year partnership with Peel Ports, which comprises pre and post contract services in connection with a diverse project portfolio including Liverpool2, a100,000m³ Biomass Import, Storage and Out loading to Rail (BISTOR) facility and the redevelopment of Inchgreen Marine Park.
We also bring our wider maritime sector expertise from across the UK through our work with the Port of Tyne, projects through the Associated British Ports’ Group Professional Services Framework, Aberdeen Harbour Board’s New South Harbour, Argyll & Bute Council’s Craignure Pier development, and our involvement with regional authorities to work towards Freeport status.
Stuart Sayer, Director, UK Real Estate, said:
“We’re delighted to have been selected as project and cost manager for the Peel Ports Group framework."
With infrastructure and real estate becoming increasingly intertwined as part of the levelling up agenda, this appointment is a further opportunity for us to leverage our expertise across both sectors.
"It builds upon our long-standing relationship with the Peel group of companies, who have a key role to play in helping to develop and regenerate key docks and hubs for existing and new trade opportunities. This in turn helps to drive and boost local economy. A value which is shared between both businesses."
Lewis McIntyre, MD Port Services at Peel Ports, said:
I’m delighted that Turner and Townsend has been selected as part of our Engineering Consultancy Framework, which will benefit both our customers and the wider business over the years to come.
"The expertise that Turner and Townsend bring will be vital for our business going forward, and we look forward to growing our partnership in the coming months."
