Turner & Townsend provides further support to WYCA Mass Transit Network

Under a £30m framework, Turner & Townsend has been appointed as Programme Development Partner (PDP) to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) Mass Transit Portfolio.

As part of their Mass Transit Vision 2040, WYCA has set out ambitious plans for a new Mass Transit transport system for West Yorkshire. Mass Transit will be a new fully integrated world-class system helping to deliver a greener, and better-connected West Yorkshire.

The Mass Transit Portfolio aims to connect West Yorkshire’s cities, towns and district centres, serving areas of new housing development and employment growth, and providing links to inter-city rail services. It will help communities to thrive and the local economy to flourish, bringing people and places together.

This appointment builds on Turner & Townsend's ongoing work with the WYCA Mass Transit Portfolio and follows our commission as business case development partner in 2022.

As Programme Delivery Partner, the global professional services company will utilise its extensive experience in Transport and Light Rail development and delivery across project management, programme advisory, commercial management, information management and project controls to set up and drive successful integration and delivery of the Portfolio. Turner & Townsend will continue to partner with Anturas providing specialist management and technical services and have added further technical expertise through its partner WSP.

Clare Wood, Director, Infrastructure, Turner & Townsend, UK said:

We’re delighted to extend our scope of work on this significant portfolio for the region of West Yorkshire. Upon completion, the Mass Transit Network will improve an individual’s ability to connect with family, communities, employers, education, and healthcare facilities.

"It will not only provide an improved and greener transportation system, but it will also become a catalyst for the community’s economic prosperity. We look forward to continuing our commission and supporting the client in delivering for the communities of West Yorkshire.”

Simon Warburton, Executive Director for Transport at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, said:

"Mass Transit will act as a catalyst for growth and help us to create a better-connected region. It's great to have Turner & Townsend on board as project delivery partner - we look forward to working with them to deliver this transformational scheme for the people of West Yorkshire."
