Turner & Townsend's Asia-Pacific teams appoint new real estate leaders
Turner & Townsend has made two appointments to its real estate leadership team across Asia-Pacific (APAC), in line with the business’ future growth and ambition for the region.
Sumit Mukherjee has assumed the role of Head of Real Estate, Asia, and Julian Kerwood becomes the Head of Real Estate, Australia and New Zealand. Both Sumit and Julian join Turner & Townsend's global real estate board in their new roles.
Sumit takes over from Brian Shuptrine, who became Managing Director, Asia, in May 2023. Julian succeeds Matt Billingham, who was appointed Operations Director, Australia and New Zealand, also in May.
As the region continues to navigate complex market conditions, from skills shortages to rising costs of construction, Sumit and Julian’s new leadership and history with the business reinforces its position as a premier programme, project, and cost and commercial management leader in the industry.
Both Sumit and Julian joined the business in Melbourne, Australia following the company's acquisition of Thinc Projects in 2015. Sumit went on to lead their Southeast Asian offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam, managing business growth through sector engagement and diversification of service lines.
He will now be responsible for all real estate sector, service and proposition activities in Asia, and for key client sponsorship for principal strategic partnerships, and will focus on talent and capability development across the region.
Julian is the current Head of Project Management, Australia and New Zealand, and previously held the role of State Lead for Project Management in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
Julian has overseen the significant growth of the Australia and New Zealand project management business over the past three years, with a focus on strategic advice, set-up and delivery services for major projects and programmes, including the new Sydney Fish Market and Queensland Health Capital Expansion Programme. In his new role, he will be responsible for all real estate business services across the region.
Sumit Mukherjee, Head of Real Estate, Asia comments:
Our major projects proposition is a strong foundation that helps our clients to establish delivery teams and processes and implement controls that facilitate the successful execution of their projects.
“With the growing complexity of projects and as the demand for faster, cheaper and more sustainable delivery increases, I am focused on embedding this capability in Asia and working with the specialist major projects team to bring this offering to market."
Julian Kerwood, Head of Real Estate, Australia and New Zealand says:
Our real estate business in Australia and New Zealand has a fast-growing reputation with clients across the public and private sectors.
"I look forward to leading our highly capable team as they helps our clients here realise their social, environmental and economic objectives on major projects, programmes and portfolios."
