Powering space exploration with Pixxel’s cutting-edge Bangalore headquarters

Pixxel is a space data company building a constellation of the world’s highest-resolution hyperspectral earth imaging satellites and the analytical tools to mine insights from the data.

Turner & Townsend's India team provided project management and cost and commercial management services to successfully deliver the new 40,000 square-feet standalone facility, which is now Pixxel’s home base to fuel its space exploration capabilities.

Situated within the Hennur-Bellary Road Layout, one of the fastest developing localities in Bangalore, India, the three-story headquarters is spread across one acre of land and includes office space, laboratories, a clean room and a mission control room. Turner & Townsend's team's scope for the project was for building construction, internal fit-out and external infrastructure development.

A key driver of leveraging hyperspectral technology for commercial satellites, Pixxel was the first company from Asia to be accepted for the Los Angeles-based Techstars Starburst Space Accelerator for 2019. Since then, Pixxel has become a leading industry player, most recently being named as one of TIME's 200 Best Inventions of 2023. Their current aim is to put a constellation of 24 hyperspectral earth imaging satellites into a Sun-synchronous orbit.

Pixxel’s hyperspectral satellites can capture images at hundreds of wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum and reveal critical data about the health of the planet. Both the hyperspectral constellation and advanced data analytics platform will give up to 10 times more information compared to current multispectral satellites in space with better spectral resolution.

The images gathered by Pixxel's satellites will provide daily global coverage and help detect, monitor, and predict global phenomena across agriculture, mining and metal, environment, and energy use cases.

This data will allow near real-time insights to be generated and redefine the range of opportunities that geospatial data enables for businesses and governments, such as monitoring crop health, extracting chemical and physical parameters of complex surfaces, and measuring climate risks.

Turner & Townsend's work with Pixxel forms part of an extensive portfolio of real estate and office developments in its India business.

Rajat Bhattacharjee, Director, Bangalore said:

Partnering with Pixxel on their new Bangalore manufacturing facility marks a significant milestone in fostering technological advancements and space exploration in India.

“Our collaboration has brought about a building that will serve as a hub for innovation and set the stage for future breakthroughs in global data analysis and space technology.”
