Supporting Queensland Health’s hospital expansion programme

We have been appointed by Queensland Health in Australia to provide either project management or cost management services for multiple hospital expansions. This will increase Queensland’s hospital capacity by over 1,200 beds.

Queensland’s health system has been under increased pressure due to capacity constraints, population growth and increased clinical activity. In response, Queensland Health is moving to a strategic, system-wide view of service delivery and capital requirements.

The Queensland Government’s budget for 2022 to2023 includes AU$9.8bn for the Capacity Expansion Programme (CEP), a significant investment over the next six years to futureproof the state’s world-class health system.

We are supporting the following hospitals across the CEP:

Project management

  • Townsville University Hospital – AU$530m expansion will deliver 143 additional beds by late 2026.
  • Ipswich Hospital – AU$710m expansion will deliver 200 additional beds by late 2027.
  • The Prince Charles Hospital – AU$360m expansion will deliver 93 additional beds by late 2027.

Cost management

  • New Coomera Hospital – AU$1.3bn investment will deliver a new hospital with 404 beds by mid-2027.
  • Princess Alexandra Hospital – AU$350m expansion will deliver 249 additional beds by late 2026.
  • Mackay Hospital – AU$250m expansion will deliver 128 additional beds by late 2026.

Malcolm Naylor, Health Sector Lead, Australia and New Zealand, said:

The opportunity to support Queensland Health’s Capital Expansion Programme builds on our 20-year relationship driving transformational outcomes for Cairns, Townsville, Ipswich, Kingaroy and Mackay Hospitals.

"Our extensive health sector experience will provide Queensland Health with confidence that the programme will meet the growing demand for healthcare services and ensure Queenslanders have inclusive access to the high-quality healthcare they need."
