Turner & Townsend appointed as Infrastructure Programme Capability Partner to Rolls-Royce Submarines
Turner & Townsend has been appointed as the Infrastructure Programme Capability Partner by Rolls-Royce Submarines to support the delivery of its 10-year expansion programme at its operations site in Raynesway, Derby.
Rolls-Royce Submarines is currently engaged in the production of reactor plants and associated components for the Astute and Dreadnought-class submarines, as well as components for the future SSN-AUKUS boats.
To meet increased demand from the UK Ministry of Defence, Rolls-Royce is doubling the size of its Submarines site in Derby, involving the modification and expansion of existing facilities and the construction of new ones. Given that Raynesway contains two nuclear-licensed sites, this expansion programme requires stringent safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
As the Infrastructure Programme Capability Partner (IPCP), Turner & Townsend will provide programme controls, programme and project management, digital services, as well as health, safety, environment and quality assurance services and other critical technical services.
Beyond its impact on the defence sector, this expansion will drive economic growth, creating 1,170 skilled roles across a variety of disciplines and significantly boosting employment opportunities in the East Midlands region.
This significant appointment underlines Turner & Townsend’s strategic role in one of the UK’s most vital defence infrastructure projects, positioning the business at the heart of the UK’s Continuous At-Sea Deterrence and AUKUS investment, further supporting the UK’s national security and defence capabilities.
Andy Scott, Managing Director, Defence, UK at Turner & Townsend said:
“This appointment marks a significant milestone for Turner & Townsend, reinforcing our position as a trusted partner in the UK defence sector."
Our expertise in programme and project management, combined with our deep understanding of nuclear infrastructure, ensures that we are well-placed to support Rolls-Royce Submarines in delivering this complex and vital expansion.
"This project will not only enhance the UK's submarine programme but also generate new opportunities for skilled professionals in the region.”
Terry Meighan, Director, Infrastructure at Rolls-Royce Submarines said:
This is a once in a generation opportunity to expand our site to meet the needs of the UK Ministry of Defence, but we aren’t going to be able to do it alone.
"To deliver this work safely, on time and on budget we are working with trusted partners across a range of disciplines and we are delighted to have Turner & Townsend onboard to help us realise our ambitions.”
