Turner & Townsend’s Australia team appointed by Australian Naval Infrastructure to deliver project controls for Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard
The global professional services company has been appointed by Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) as its project controls partner for the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at the Osborne Naval Shipyard Precinct (ONSP) in South Australia.
ANI, an Australian Government Business Enterprise, is tasked with the design and delivery of the NPSCY project. The project will involve expanding the existing Osborne Naval Shipyard Area to accommodate the facilities and infrastructure necessary for building Australian SSN-AUKUS submarines. The SSN-AUKUS pact sets out bold plans to develop Australia’s first fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.
The NPSCY will revolutionise the precinct, making Osborne the hub for Australia’s next-generation submarine build and one of the most advanced technological hubs globally.
Over the next few years, it is estimated that at least AU$2bn* will be invested into South Australian infrastructure as a result of ONSP. At its peak, the design and build of the infrastructure for the programme is expected to create opportunities for up to 4,000 workers. A further 4,000 to 5,000 direct jobs are expected to be created to build the nuclear-powered submarines in South Australia, when the programme reaches its peak.
Darren Munton, Regional Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand at Turner & Townsend, said:
The NPSCY is a nationally significant programme and requires specialists who can develop a project controls approach that enables transparency, consistency and informed decisions.
“Our strong track record in establishing effective project controls frameworks and driving efficient performance of major, complex programmes in Australia, such as Sydney Metro, will elevate ANI’s performance in delivering the infrastructure required to realise AUKUS ambitions.”
