A major investment

Barclays' Glasgow Campus represents one of Scotland’s biggest-ever inward investments and reinforces the nation’s status as a global finance and technology hub.

Home to 5,000 staff, the campus comprises 500,000 sq ft of sustainable office, training, wellness and community amenity space across three new buildings and two renovated listed buildings on the south bank of the River Clyde.

In 2018, we were engaged by Barclays to deliver project, cost and risk management services along with safety, health and quality for the delivery of the new campus.

Moving towards sustainability

To facilitate the journey towards being a “net zero bank” by 2050, the campus includes a sustainability centre, which provides heating, cooling, and domestic hot water to the buildings via air source heat pumps in lieu of a traditional gas fired boiler system.

By removing the campus’ reliance on fossil fuels, it is estimated that approximately 150 tonnes of carbon will be saved each year.

Delivery of the campus included diverting a four-lane carriageway and re-greening approximately three acres of the 6.7-acre city centre brownfield site to create an urban park for the city in which both the new buildings and renovated buildings connect with the river.

The public park creates a unique city centre meeting and events space with both a retail and a food and beverage offer for colleagues and the wider community.

A collaborative approach

By embedding our team as part of the client organisation, we guided the project through the design, procurement and delivery stages to create a world class campus, which is expected to be a stimulus for future development in the city.
