The requirement for more data centre capacity in India, and especially in the western state of Maharashtra, has risen exponentially over the last few years. Data Centre Holdings India (DCHI) aimed to develop a hyper-scale data centre with a total load of 120 megawatts, making it among the largest data centres in the world.
Location: Dighe, Navi Mumbai, India
Date started: 2020
Completion date: 2022
Client type: real estate
Main capabilities: cost and commercial management, procurement and supply chain, project management
Scalable data centre project
The company’s objective is to develop two data centre core and shell buildings, one three megawatt data hall, plus ancillary and support buildings and services, as well as commercial office space for DCHI and its clients. To meet the power, air conditioning, administrative and security requirements for the data centre, the scheme will also have a 220KV substation.
The data centre is the largest on a single plot ever to be built in Mumbai and will increase its capacity over a five-year programme.
Supporting the client
We are supporting the client for end-to-end project, cost management and contract administrative services. This has included the stage gate approval process, risks cost reporting, robust contract administration, a quality control process and action trackers which have facilitated stakeholders to take considered decisions on time.
During a challenging time, operating amid the coronavirus pandemic, we have been able to ensure that site activities have continued. We have also educated the teams on health and safety practices, which has resulted in more than half a million safe worker hours.
Community inclusion
DCHI has hired an environmental consultancy to ensure that local communities are not negatively impacted by the development, and the scheme has created jobs for skilled and unskilled workers, both in the construction phase and for the 30-year operation of the facility.
