An exemplary sustainable facility

Faurecia, a company of group Forvia, wanted to build a 22,500m² new facility to replace an existing plant located in an old building on the bank of the Doubs River. The site is owned by a joint venture called FHPM, comprising Batifranc, Region Bourgogne Franche Comté’s developer, PMIE, La Caisse des Dépôts et Consignation/ Banque du Territoire and Faurecia.

We were commissioned to deliver advisory, project management, control and monitoring and cost control services.

The new facility needed to house the production lines for its clean mobility business and tanks for future hydrogen activity.

A key objective for this new facility was to be an exemplar in green certification and carbon neutrality; as a company, we are committed to helping our partners reach their sustainability goals.

To help the client achieve its ambition to be CO2 neutral for controlled emissions by 2030, we were able to act in an advisory capacity and sustainably project manage the construction.

As a result, the Allenjoie site is the first manufacturing building in France to be certified on the BREEAM Excellent level in design and construction.

The design and execution process supported their energy and environmentally efficient strategy and sustainability objectives. This included locally produced wood for the roof structure, a biomass boiler for heating and solar panels.

Faurecia has incorporated all green solutions used on the Allenjoie site in new specifications for greenfield projects. This will create a future network of more sustainable facilities.

Local support to a global client

We have been supporting Faurecia at a programme level since 2018. Our local market knowledge and technical expertise meant we were appointed to provide, project management, control and monitoring and cost control services for the successful execution of this project.

We coordinated multiple local teams from different departments and provided advisory services during the planning and pre-construction phases.

Through stakeholder management, we prevented excess expenditure and delays which could have arisen from prolonged unfavourable weather conditions.

This included the flood risks that we efficiently project managed throughout the project. We also changed insurers just after the design completion.

Sharing best practices for the future

Our project team led the implementation of an efficient and productive project management approach, starting at the pre-contract negotiations phase.

We also provided cost management services to agree and evaluate the target cost before the contract was finalised.

To support Faurecia’s commitment to incorporate solutions and meet its sustainability goals for all future new build sites, we shared the knowledge on the set-up and construction process as well as best practices with its central and local teams.
