Buoyant market
To meet growing demand of IT infrastructure in Africa, Vantage Data Centers’ new JNB11 campus is situated in the thriving business district of Waterfall Logistics Precinct in Waterfall Estate, Midrand, Johannesburg.
The first phase of the campus included the construction of a building area of 12,000 sqm and was completed in June 2022. The total campus will feature three facilities offering 60,000m2 of data centre space.
Vantage has also engaged with the local community, providing around 100 new jobs during the construction phase.
Staying on course
We provided cost management and planning services throughout the project, enabling the data centre to be delivered on time and within budget.
Our work included providing accurate construction budgets at the design stage, preparing monthly cashflows, and crisis management. With our experience in contracts, we were also able to advise the client of the most advantageous procurement strategy and contract to use based on market conditions in South Africa.
Green focus
Vantage has successfully delivered its first hyperscale data centre on the African continent that aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability by incorporating sustainable power solutions such as solar and other environmentally friendly techniques into the design.
Entering into a power purchase agreement with SolarAfrica in July 2022, Vantage aims to secure 33 percent of its power supply needs for the Waterfall campus. Where possible, materials were sourced locally and near the site and, among other things, the chillers use highly-efficient cooling systems.
Vantage invested in elements for incremental water savings throughout the campus and the data halls are fitted with occupancy sensors which automatically turn off the LED lighting when there is no movement.
Werner Peters, Construction Director at Vantage comments:
We have had a highly skilled team from Turner & Townsend supporting us during project delivery and I can only thank them for their commitment and dedication to ensure successful completion. The team remains dedicated to our business through the completion of the HV Build project which is only due for completion in 2023.
