Safeguarding water assets
Seqwater’s annual capital investment is expected to increase to ensure a sustainable, secure and climate-resilient water supply for a growing South East Queensland population.
Responding to an increasing capital delivery programme, Seqwater established an enterprise level portfolio office as part of its overall Capital Delivery Transformation programme to improve project and programme delivery and portfolio management.
As the current Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) system reached its end of life, Seqwater appointed our team to manage the investment and implementation of a new fit-for-purpose PPM system to transform end-to-end project management, process governance and programme-level reporting efficiency.
Optimising planning and delivery of critical water infrastructure
Seqwater required a PPM system that would provide an integrated solution across multiple functions to achieve a single source of truth for all data and workflows. We conducted a capability assessment, developed strategies and prepared a business case using our expertise to share best practice recommendations to meet Seqwater’s objectives. We adopted a fully digital, integrated approach that enabled us to assess, adapt and advance Seqwater’s performance.
We also managed the overall implementation and design of the Planisware PPM system using our experience in project and programme management, as well as the information and communications technology workstream. Our team also led the change management and trained more than 250 Seqwater stakeholders on using the new system.
Through enhanced insights and visibility, including robust analytics and live data, Seqwater now has a deeper understanding of project metrics milestones and risk. This allows for strategic decision-making, proactively addressing challenges, minimising risk and optimising project outcomes.
The Planisware system in place supports various scale and risk projects and is accessible and usable by multiple stakeholders. The PPM system also delivers a standard and reliable tool across Seqwater for all portfolio, programme and project management needs, catering for all project types and complexities.
Ensuring reliable water supply
Our partnership with Seqwater is driving an enhanced data culture within the organisation, enabling efficient and accurate reporting processes, while also embedding heightened levels of data governance and assurance across the organisation.
Focusing on people, the system has transformed how stakeholders collaborate, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, teamwork and enhancing project performance. The first of its kind in the Australian infrastructure industry, this integrated approach transforms how projects and programmes are managed, promoting system adoption and efficient communication and collaboration.
The new PPM system will leave a lasting legacy by enhancing project efficiency and resource management. This ultimately, will lead to improved water services and infrastructure, which positively impacts Queenslanders through more reliable water supply and better environmental stewardship.
Amanda Lindner, Portfolio Reporting Lead, Seqwater, said:
Working with Turner & Townsend on our PPM system implementation project has resulted in great outcomes for our organisation. Their expertise in project and programme advisory, coupled with their professionalism in managing both our team and the system vendor (Planisware), were instrumental in designing and implementing the system.
“We now have a standard and reliable tool across Seqwater for all portfolio, programme and project management needs, and we are currently driving an enhanced data culture which will improve our delivery efficiency.”
